The objective for this collaboration project was to work with someone from another class in order to communicate solemnly through pictures. Our 6th period started the conversation by putting a photo into the shared folder in which we were also assigned a person to collaborate with. After that, each day we would come into class and view the photo our partner left for us and we had to respond to their image with another image. We could pretty much respond in any way we wanted. We did this for a week going back and forth every class period and responding to each others images.
In our conversation, I started out with a photo of some bare trees and the blue sky and white fluffy clouds behind it. My partner responded with an up close photo of a tire and some snow. I stuck with the idea of snow and put in a photo of a snow bank through a window with with some water droplets on the window. The water droplets photo and the snow bank photos are separate photos that a layered on top of each other. My partner then responded with a photo of snow on the ground and water droplets on top of the photo as well. This is where, in a way, we began playing copy cat and putting in photos that related to each other based on subject matter, For the next photo, I added the water droplets as a small detail and focused on the value and lines of the window panes, and I also threw in faint handprints to seem like impression on the window which was actually a separate photo as well. I did this to in a way change the topic of the conversation. Which it did, however, my partner responded with a completely different subject matter, which was a up close photo of a pine tree, but still kept the water droplet aspect which I believe was very interesting and made the "conversation" have some depth and meaning. I responded in the same way with a black and white photo of a plant and I spot colored an orange flower and layered the water droplets on top of it once again. The last photo my partner responded with was a picture with a lot going on in the subject matter which includes a purple flower, what seems to be a hand, and of course many water droplets to wrap up the conversation on her end with a very strong photo. Last, the photo I ended the conversation with was a black and white photo of my friends blonde hair with a faint amount of water droplets layered on top.
I really enjoyed this collaboration because we had no idea who were were working with and it was interesting to see their style of photography and how it fluctuated from our own. When doing this project I felt like taking and putting photos back into the folder, that related to my partners before, was a good way to see how we both approached a certain subject matter and how our minds traveled to different things to take pictures of but still related back to the same topic. I feel like this project was a good way to see other peoples ideas and even get ideas of my own for taking and editing future photos.
