Aurora Lucero My overall experience in the photography class was very good. I am not the ‘art’ type of person but I feel like I was really engaged and was not bored in the class. There was always something that could be done and the ability to use our own ideas was helpful and it made me more successful. I had a lot of fun in this class and I could see myself taking advanced photography probably next year, to further my knowledge. As a whole, I feel like even though we spent a majority of the time working at our own pace and on our own projects, it was organized. It was clear on what needed to be done and what work was expected of us at the end. My ideas for what to photograph were broad and at the end when I looked at all my pictures together, I realized that even though they were all different subject matters and all looked different, they worked together and complement each other. I got my ideas randomly, pretty much just by looking around at things in everyday life and seeing how I could make them interesting. Instead of taking pictures of a variety of things related to my topic I took a number of pictures of the same ‘thing’. When editing my photos I tried mostly to enhance the image or certain parts of the image. I liked to work with black and white but I tried not to overdo the black and white on my projects so only a few of them are. From my first to my last photo I can see a progression in the subject matters and being more creative towards my last projects. I started not wanting to edit my photos too dramatically but then I started to experiment with combining photos ,taking parts of images and putting then into another. At first I was a little stuck on what to take photos of and I was really influenced by the critiques we did in class to gain new ideas. I’d have to say I am proud of my progression and how far I have come in photography. I do not see art as being something main I want to go to college for but I would like to do some photography when I have time away from my actual occupation. I think it would be fun to be able to take photos for like my family or friends to show them what I can so because they were not in class to see my whole process of a certain image. Being in photography I found a form of art that I actually felt good at and was able to do my own thing instead of being told to take pictures of this or edit a photo like this.
